I think this project has always been a part of who I am, it just took me some time to realize just how much. Growing up I was (and still am) rough around the edges. My friends were the neighborhood boys and we spent most days playing in the dirt, climbing trees, nerf gun wars, hot wheels, you name it. I never questioned that “this isn’t what girls do” because I was never made to feel that way. They were my friends, and thats was it. It was only when we started to get older that dividing lines had begun to form.
For a long time, women have been featured barely dressed on the hood of cars, but hardly ever behind the wheel. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a women’s rights of expression, dressing how we choose and our sexuality, but its when women are viewed as objects no different than the car itself that there’s a problem. I’m not looking to be seen as the best or most knowledgeable with cars, because I am far from it. I’m just looking to be taken equal, without stigma. I just want to be seen for who I am, not what I am.
The only way to bring that change is by showing the world that we’re out there.
So Ned Nova and I are setting out on a mission to
find others out there just like us, Women of the Car world, while driving deep into crazy car culture to find out what it really means to love cars.
Its going to be tough, and at times we’ll probably get lost, but in the end I couldn’t think of one thing I’d rather do more.
I owe it to all of you. I owe it to Ned. I owe it to myself.
